December 4, 2004

Last week I went to Vinci village in Toscana in Italy.
There were many olive trees over the hills in the village.

http://www.hifido.co.jp/merumaga/special/041203/indexe.html

I looked into the house where Leonard da Vinci was born.
I heard the male singing Canzona when I went outside .
The lady in my tour group started to sing with him dignifiedly.

I followed them and found that people were harvesting olive.
They were gathering olive berry on the net with pitchfork under the tress.

The tour guide explained that fresh olive oil was sold at the olive factory in the neighborhood .

Mr. Kondo and Ms. Cappuccino will recommend CDs for the female singer in my tour group who loves Canzona.

Topics in this week

2. CD Picks of the week - Italy
3. Walking around Akihabara

1. IPPIN Guide - McIntosh Monaural Power Amplifier 50W-2

I checked 50W-2 in "McIntosh" magazine of separate volume of Stereo Sound.
Scottich Tartan label of McIntosh may be derived from Scotland. The name beginning with "Mc" seemes to be Scottish name.

Mr. McIntosh first released Unity Coupled Circuit called "McIntosh Circuit" in 1947 and he took out a patent for this new circuit and bifilar transformer. McIntosh circuit by original transformer created 50W-1 to the world in 1949.

50W-1 was outstanding power amplifier in those days though McIntosh Laboratory was only minorLaboratory. The feature was 50W output and distorting rate under 1% at maximum output (It is said that actual record was under 0.5%). 50W-2 was released as revised model of 50W-1 in 1951.

2. CD Picks of the week - Italy

Piano Trio by Italian Pianists is introduced in this week..
Mr. Kondo recommends "Romantica" by "Danilo Rea Trio".
Italy reminds us Canzona. Danilo Rea is fond of playing Canzona.
Ms. Cappuccino recommends "Live at SUNSIDE"
This is the third DVD by Sawano Kobo which has high reputation as European Jazz Label.

3. Walking around Akihabara

I woke up in the afternoon . I went to Akihabara by bicycle because it was sunny day.

I heard loud sound when I passed the front of the open air concert stage.
I found that someone was practicing some instrument. I checked the speaker and
it seemed either ALTEC A7 or A5 which was called excellent speaker a long time ago.
I was interested that a famous speaker was used in such place.

I reached Akihabara station within 10 minutes.
It was surprising that the redevelopped building at the front of the station were almost completed .

The image of Akihabara has completely changed from previous image.
Audiophiles will miss the atmosphere of Akihabara in old days. Now PC shops fills this town.

It is difficult to find audio parts shop. There are some vacuum tube shops but they are open occasionaly because the owners are getting older.

I finally found HALTORON 6V6 and bought them.
I rode a bicycle for one hour around Akihabara and found that this town looked quite different from that in ten years ago. I was dreary and I went home.

To be continued
