Royal Horse filled with people on August 13. This Jazz session were performed by Masahiko Osaka(Ds), Kiyoshi Takeshita(P), Ryousui Kozasa(B), and two special guests, Yoshiro Okazaki(Tp) and Yuzuru Yamada(As). The concert started off "Freddie Freeloader" in Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. It is standard music starting with wind. Their performance was so cool. The next was swinging number "My Shining Hour" and it was swing music. They enjoyed to play as they were playing catch. It was great fun to watch their exciting performance. "I Can't Get Started" was ballad by saxophone with melancholy tune. Osaka played drums gently and softly and he introduced Yamada and Okazaki as special guest. The last number in the first set was "So What" and it was very popular number starting with piano and base. The five musicians all gave excellent performances and they worked quite well together. Trumpet and saxophone were chasing at the middle part and it made Osaka's drumming harder. Excellent drumstick performance in long solo impressed audience. They showed different style from their live at last night. They looked cool quintet tonight. The second set started with Latin music, "The night has thousand eyes" and they played it magnificently. "Up Jumped Spring "was Jazz Waltz and Okazaki gradually toned up from muted level. Piano and drums were chasing and then base, trumpet and saxophone made sharp performance. "In A Sentimental Mood" was featured trumpet by Okazaki and his emotional performance was so impressed. The last number was my favorite "Mr. PC". This is fast music starting with drums and shifted to tubes. Their fantastic performance charmed audience and they leaned toward the stage. For an encore they performed "Bye Bye Black Bird". I really enjoyed their stunning performance. http://www.hifido.co.jp/merumaga/special/040903/indexe.html 3.Walking around Akihabara by Taro Akiba I tried to listen to music through SANSUI amplifier and hand-made amplifier connected to stereo in right and left side. It gave us the feeling of being at a live performance as compared with monaural stereo. There was difference between the sound of each amplifier. It's because the transformer of Sansui was produced 40 years ago. The sound of hand-made amplifier seemed to be more clear than that of Sansui HF-V60 which produced in 1956. I did not care the different sound of both amplifier but it was obviously different in appearance. I would like to try to make stereo with one chassis because it is fun. My friend called me when I listened to the music. He said, "Have you completed making hand-made amplifier?" "Would you like to come to my house to listen to it?" I said. "Now, I'm driving around your house and I will be there in 15 minutes." he said. As soon as he came in my room and said , "It sounds fairly great." He took CD of Vivaldi and tried to listen to it. He said, "The violins sound live. Your hand-made amplifier might produce better sound than SANSUI HF-V60." He wanted to make amplifier by himself as I did. He asked me how to make it and I said, "I will lend you SANSUI HF-60 and just make same one. It's so easy." but I was wondering it might not so easy.
